Wisconsin vs. Illinois on NCAA football betting Saturday

The Wisconsin Badgers enter the weekend in a first-place tie with Ohio State in the Big Ten. That could change this weekend though when the 5-0 Badgers take on the 4-1 Illinois Fighting Illini. If the Illini can get past Wisconsin, and get some help from Purdue with Ohio State, Illinois could shockingly surge into first place in the Big Ten.

The Badgers are coming off a 37-34 win as a 7-point betting favorite over Michigan State, in which their defense failed to show up but their offense was able to bail them out. Wisconsin quarterback Tyler Donovan completed 17-of-24 passes for 247 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions to pace the attack.

Running back P.J. Hill kept his name in the Heisman trophy talk by rushing for 155 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries, while Travis Beckum led all receivers with 10 receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown. The Wisconsin defense showed more holes than Swiss cheese all day and allowed the Spartans to rack up 564 yards of total offense. The Fighting Illini continued their surprising run with a 27-20 upset win over Penn State as a 3-point underdog last week. Quarterback Juice Williams completed 11-of-24 passes for 120 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, but it was wideout Arrelious Benn that was the real difference maker. Benn caught six passes for 84 yards and a touchdown, and also got the Illini on the board early with a 90-yard kickoff return for a TD in the first quarter. Illinois running back Rashard Mendenhall also had a solid afternoon with 76 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.

Last season the Badgers defeated the Fighting Illini 30-24 as a 21-point home favorite. That was Wisconsin's fourth straight win over Illinois, as the Illini have not beaten the Badgers since 2002. This could be Illinois' year to end that losing streak though, as they are a 2.5-point favorite in Saturday's game with the total listed at 51.5. Kickoff is at noon ET on ESPN.
