Purdue vs Notre Dame - Jimmy Clausen can't save Fighting Irish

The Purdue Boilermakers (4-0) have scored at least 45 points in all four games to start the season, and they look to continue this trend against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (0-4), who are off to the worst start in their long and storied history.

The Irish finally scored an offensive touchdown last week against Michigan State, but fell 31-14 at home and have given up at least 31 points in all four games. QB Jimmy Clausen was only 7-for-13 for 53 yards as the Irish gained only 203 yards in total with nine first downs. But Clausen is a freshman and it cannot be expected that he will be the savior of the program already, as the defense will have to shore up its efforts.

The Irish allowed Michigan State quarterback Brian Hoyer to throw four touchdown passes, three from inside the red zone. If Notre Dame is going to continue giving up points at that kind of pace, it is going to be a very long year in South Bend.Purdue rolled up 504 yards of offense while forcing four turnovers in Week 4's 45-31 win at Minnesota, as Curtis Printer went 33-for-48 for 338 yards, three touchdowns and an interception to power the Boilermakers' offense. Kory Sheets ran for 111 yards and a major on 21 carries for Purdue as well, proving that they are not a one-dimensional offense. The Boilermakers can score a lot of points at any given time, and that should be worrisome for the rest of the Big Ten.

The Boilermakers are huge 22-point home betting favorites this weekend and unless Notre Dame has suddenly discovered how to score like Purdue, they should pull away from the Irish early. Notre Dame's lack of scoring prowess combined with their tendency to give up a lot of points should have the high-scoring Boilermakers licking their chops.
