NCAA Football Betting: Rutgers a good bet against Maryland on Saturday

The offense of No. 10 Rutgers (4-0) has been on a roll over the first three games of the season, as they host a Maryland Terrapins team (2-2) that has fallen off since a hot start.

The Terrapins lost their second straight game last week, but the 31-24 overtime loss at Wake Forest was especially demoralizing because Maryland lost a 24-10 lead in the second half. The Terrapins forced three Wake Forest turnovers, but committing three of their own (including two fumbles) was extremely counterproductive.

Jordan Steffy was only 11-for-20 for 115 yards and an interception, and the team had to rely on Keon Lattimore's 112 rushing yards including a major. As opportunistic as the defense was in intercepting Wake Forest's Riley Skinner three times, the Terps' offense could not hold up their end of the bargain.Rutgers pummeled tiny Norfolk State 59-0 at home last week, behind Mike Teel's 269 passing yards to go along with three touchdowns. Ray Rice ran for only 72 yards but managed to contribute three scores, as the Scarlet Knights are out to prove they do not have to depend on their star running back. Rutgers racked up 537 yards and only allowed 122, and they also did something that teams have to do if they want to be considered a "major" school; they did not take a smaller team for granted and continued to play hard all game.

The Scarlet Knights are a big 18.5-point favorite this week at Rutgers Stadium, and they are a good bet to cover that as they have the ability to score large bunches of points in a small time, as last week's 42-point second-quarter explosion demonstrates. They also play very well at home, and the Terrapins seem to have lost the confidence that they showed when winning their first two games of the season.
