NFL Betting: New York Giants - Dallas Cowboys

The National Football League's Sunday night schedule kicks off this week with a battle between a couple of NFC East rivals - the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants (game time is 8:15pm ET on NBC). Both of those clubs squeaked into the playoffs last season, but can they both turn that trick at the end of 2007?

Well, a win on Sunday night would be a great start in reaching that goal. The oddsmakers at WagerWeb think the Cowboys have a better chance of beginning the season at 1-0 - they're pegged as 6-point favorites at home at Texas Stadium for the contest. The game's OVER/UNDER has been listed at 44 points.

Dallas, though, will be without the services of wide receiver Terry Glenn in this game - and perhaps for many games to come. Glenn is expected to undergo knee surgery in the near future, and it's likely that he'll miss a large chunk of the season. Patrick Crayton will fill in for Glenn in the Cowboys' offense for the time being. Both Glenn and LB Greg Ellis have been listed as OUT for this week, while LB Kevin Burnett (ankle) and CB Terence Newman (foot) are PROBABLE.

New York will have DL Michael Strahan on the field on Sunday night; the veteran was activated on Saturday, although he could see limited work in his season debut. RB Robert Douglas, WR David Tyree, and LB Gerris Wilkinson are all OUT for the Giants this week. DE Adrain Awasom (hip), CB Sam Madison (hamstring), C Grey Ruegamer (ankle), and T Guy Whimper (ankle) are PROBABLE. Everyone else on the Giants has been deemed healthy for Sunday.

The Cowboys had a middling exhibition season - they went 2-2, scoring 84 points and allowing 81. New York struggled on offense during their month of preseason action, scoring just 66 points (allowing 83) while posting a 1-3 record.

The Giants will play their home opener in Week 2, when Brett Favre and the Green Bay PackersMiami next week.
