NCAA Football Weekend Recap

It was another wild weekend in college football as the so-called best teams in the nation actually lived up to the hype, while Michigan - again - was the dud of the week.

With the No. 1 USC Trojans idle this weekend, it was up to the No. 2 LSU Tigers to show what the top of the rankings were made of. The Tigers continued to prove their worth with a 48-7 rout of Virginia Tech as an 11.5-point favorite. The LSU offense had no trouble with the usually-tough Hokies'defense, as they scored in bunches no matter who was leading the offense or taking the handoffs. Starting QB Matt Flynn threw for 217 yards and ran in for a touchdown, while backup QB Ryan Perrilloux made another appearance and found the end zone twice. Expect the Tigers to keep hammering away at their opponents this weekend when they get a cupcake game against Middle Tennessee State.

Right now everyone is still talking about USC and LSU meeting up in the national championship game, but don't be surprised if Oklahoma works into the mix soon. The Sooners posted another blowout last weekend with a 51-13 rout of Miami as a 10.5-point favorite. Quarterback Sam Bradford tore the Hurricanes apart all night while throwing five touchdown passes. Receiver Malcolm Kelly didn't catch a lot of passes but he made the most of them, hauling in four passes for 102 yards and three touchdowns. Oklahoma also has an easy game on the slate this week against 0-2 Utah State.

The words "easy game" has likely been removed from the lexicon at Michigan this season. The Wolverines' loss against Appalachian State was supposed to wake them up, but they looked horrible again last weekend against Oregon. Michigan was routed by the Ducks 39-7 as an 8-point favorite.

The Wolverines'defense was roasted by Ducks'QB Dennis Dixon through the air and on the ground. While Dixon was finding the end zone, the Wolverines had trouble finding a first down. Mike Hart had another solid game with 127 rushing yards on 25 carries, while Chad Henne completed 12-of-23 passes for 172 yards with a TD before getting knocked out of the game with a knee injury. The Wolverines may be without Henne next weekend due to his banged-up knee, as Michigan prepares to face the equally slow-starting Notre Dame Fighting Irish, also 0-2 so far this season.
