NCAA College Football Betting Preview: FSU-Clemson

The annual Florida State-Clemson Bowden Bowl could be an early elimination football game for the loser of Monday's night's contest. Bobby Bowden's No. 19 Seminoles travel to Death Valley to face Tommy Bowden's Tigers at 8 p.m. ET on Labor Day Night in an ACC Atlantic Division showdown. FSU is a 3-point favorite on WagerWeb.com, with the over/under at 45. Both Bowdens enter the season with questions. Bobby's Noles have not lived up to expectations for a few years, and Bowden overhauled much of his coaching staff in the offseason, including firing son Jeff as his offensive coordinator. The Seminoles went 7-6 a year ago, the team's fewest wins under Bowden since going 7-4-1 in 1986. Bet at Wagerweb Tommy Bowden, meanwhile, led Clemson to a 7-1 start last season, but the Tigers lost four of their final five, putting Tommy back on the hot seat. "Both of us are coming off frustrating years. Usually it's just us and not them," Tommy Bowden said. "That adds a little bit different flavor to it." The matchup to watch in this game is Clemson's running back tandem of James Davis and C.J. Spiller, arguably the nation's best, against the always-stout FSU defense. Last season, Davis rushed for 1,187 yards and 17 touchdowns, while spiller added 938 yards (a 7.3-yard-per-carry average) and 10 TDs. As strong as those backs are, the Tigers are starting an unproven QB in Cullen Harper, and that might prove the difference against the Seminoles, who have lost three of four to Clemson. Look for QB Drew Weatherford to do just enough for the FSU offense to lead the Noles to a low-scoring victory. NCAA football betting at WagerWeb Online Sportsbook
