MLB Baseball Preview: Red Sox-Yankees Game 2

Baseball's greatest rivalry continues Wednesday night with two native Texan flame-throwers opposing each other. Future Hall of Famer Roger Clemens takes the mound for the host Yankees tonight as New York looks to continue the momentum from its 5-3 win against the hated Red Sox on Tuesday. The Yanks, who are the WagerWeb.com favorites tonight, paid Clemens a pro-rated $28 million to win games just like this one, as New York likely needs a sweep of this series to have any chance of catching the Red Sox in the AL East -- Boston's lead is currently seven games. Clemens is 3-1 with a 2.79 ERA in seven home starts. "It's a situation now like we're in the playoffs," said Yankees captain Derek Jeter, whose team trails Seattle by one game for the AL wild-card lead. "Weneed to get some wins."

Josh Beckett, a former Texas high schooler who grew up idolizing Clemens, takes the mound for Boston. Beckett (16-5, 3.21 ERA) is one of the leading candidates for the AL Cy Young Award and often pitches well in big games, as the Yankees can attest from the 2003 World Series when Beckett was the Marlins' ace and Series MVP. However, Beckett is only 3-2 with a 7.91 ERA in six starts against the Yankees since joining the Red Sox in 2006, although he is 2-1 at Yankee Stadium. One injury bettors need to be aware of for this game is Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez's back spasms. Ramirez left Tuesday's game with the spasms and is listed as day-to-day. However, teammate David Ortiz said he didn't expect his fellow slugger to play tonight. Check out MLB Baseball Betting Odds at WagerWeb.com.
