2007 Giants-Patriots Preseason Football Betting Preview

What: New York Giants (1-2) at New England Patriots (1-2), the teams' final NFL football preseason game When: 7:30 p.m. ET Thursday WagerWeb.com line: Patriots -4 (36) favorite to win. Is there anything more difficult than wagering on a team's final preseason game? Most times, the starters will hardly play, as many roster spots have been set. So what to look for in this game? Well, the Patriots are clearly the better team. They have veterans at nearly every key position and won't risk injury on Thursday. The Giants, on the other hand, are battling numerous injuries. Among those nursing ailments are receiver Plaxico Burress (sore back), receiver/special teams star David Tyree (broken wrist), fullback Robert Douglas (torn meniscus), cornerback E.J. Underwood(broken jaw), linebacker Kawika Mitchell (groin) and even long snapper Ryan Kuehl (calf).

Add to that, the Giants are without probably their best defensive player in end Michael Strahan, who is debating whether to retire and has missed the entire preseason. With star cornerback Asante Samuel having signed his franchise tender offer this week (if he plays Thursday night, it won't be much), about the only worry the Patriots have heading into this game is about receiver Randy Moss. Moss has been dealing with a hamstring issue during camp and has been severely limited. However, Moss is listed as probable to play against the Giants. So, it appears the Patriots have the big edge here, but remember that it's preseason. QB Eli Manning still has something to prove for the Giants, and New York has a greater need to see more "competitive"situations than do the Patriots. So go with the underdog Giants to cover.
