Scott to defend Qatar crown, then sit for month

star Adam Scott appears to have his golf game back in order, but that won’t keep him from taking a month off to rest a sore knee.

Scott fared well in the PGA Tour’s two stops in Hawaii, following an 18th-place finish at the season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship with a tie for second at the Sony Open this past weekend. Now he heads to the European Tour’s Qatar Masters, where he is a perfect 2-for-2 in his career.

Scott has won on both of his previous appearances in the event, first claiming the title in 2002 and then again last year with a final-round 61. That equaled the lowest round on the European Tour in 2008 and was a course record. But Scott’s season went rather downhill after that. This past weekend’s runner-up was his first top-10 finish since last May.

As of now, there are 18 players of the top 50 players in the world entered at Dubai – bet on the tournament at WagerWeb.com.

“It’s one of those courses where everything looks the right way to me,” Scott said of Doha Golf Club. “It seems like I make putts there, as well. Been there twice and I’ve won twice. So looking forward to going back.”

Scott, who reportedly is now dating actress Kate Hudson, dislocated his his right kneecap running out of the water while surfing in December. It was the sixth time he had suffered the problem, and that’s the reason for the soreness.

“I just have really hyper-mobile kneecaps and obviously I have to be quite careful,” he said. “As long as it doesn’t affect me playing golf I can get by. I don’t really want to go in and have surgery and, like, change my leg if that could possibly change the way I play golf.”

But he wants to be 100 percent for the Masters, thus the reason for the month off following this week’s event.

“It’s frustrating to have to ice it every night and kind of get it ready for the next day’s play,” he said. “It would be nice just to be able to go out and play.”
