Monday NCAA: Oklahoma (19-1) at Oklahoma State (13-5)

Oklahoma appears to be the class of the Big 12, but the Sooners are on major upset alert for their Bedlam Series game at on Monday night.

OU is a slight 2.5-point favorite on WagerWeb.com.

This will definitely be a matchup of opposites. The Sooners are built from the inside out, led by All-American power forward Blake Griffin. First-year OSU coach Travis Ford employs a trapping system that features four guards and no starter bigger than 6-8 Malcoln Kirkland. Thus Griffin will no doubt have another double-double, but if the Cowboys can hit their threes, the upset could be there.

Griffin probably will be the national player of the year and is averaging 22.2 points and 13.8 rebounds (tops in Division I). He also ranks in the top 10 in the country in field-goal percentage. Should he win national player of the year honors, it would be historic: Oklahoma could be the first to produce a Heisman winner (Sam Bradford) and national player of the year in basketball in the same academic year.

The Sooners, who are 4-1 on the road, have won seven straight outings and are coming off a 95-76 home win over Baylor Saturday. (Griffin rolled his ankle in that game but is fine.) , which is 9-1 at home, won 76-74 in overtime at Nebraska Saturday.

With a win, OU would become the country’s first team with 20 victories. It leads the Big 12 (all games) with its .376 field goal percentage defense. The last time OU held opponents to a lower collective figure for an entire season was 49 years ago (.339 in 1959-60). The Sooners have held their first five Big 12 opponents to a combined .364 field goal mark with only Texas A&M (.420) and Nebraska (.407) shooting above .400.

The Cowboys, who are shooting 41.5 percent from 3-point range, have four players averaging at least 13.6 points. James Anderson tops with 17.9 points per game, shooting 50.7 percent from the field and 44.1 percent from long range. OSU averages 85.4 points a game to rank second in the conference.

Oklahoma leads this 123-89 overall but is just 13-12 vs. OSU since the Big 12 came into inception. The Sooners won both games last year and have won three straight from the Cowboys, five of six and six of eight.
