Monday NCAA: Butler (19-1) at Wisconsin-Green Bay (17-6)

No doubt as a college basketball fan or bettor on WagerWeb.com, you are more focused on Monday night’s Connecticut-Louisville than perhaps this Horizon League game between Butler and . But when that Big East clash ends, check this one out as it will pair two of the better mid-major teams in the country.

Of course, Butler is no surprise to anyone, sitting at 19-1 and likely to move into the top 10 of the polls when they are released later Monday. The Bulldogs are a tournament team and one of the best mid-major programs out there. But the Phoenix are dangerous here and just 1.5-point home underdogs on WagerWeb.com. This is the type of win that looks good on an NCAA Tournament at-large resume should the Phoenix not be able to win the Horizon Tournament.

Butler is third in the NCAA in average points allowed (55.3) and has held seven successive opponents under 60 points. But leads the conference in scoring (72.2) and is 10-0 when making 10 or more 3-pointers. The Phoenix are averaging 84.3 points and shooting 51.5 percent from the floor during their three-game winning streak. They also have won eight conference games at home in a row.

Butler’s leading scorer is Matt Howard, who is averaging 13.8 points and 7.1 boards during Butler’s 11-game winning streak. He has averaged 15.7 points and 7.3 rebounds in three career games versus the Phoenix.

The two teams met back on Jan. 22, a 68-59 Butler home win. The Bulldogs trailed 25-22 and shot just 28 percent in the first half, but outscored the Phoenix by 12 and shot 60 percent in the second half.

Butler has won 21 straight games in the Horizon League and nine straight in the series. If needs any more incentive, it could prevent Butler from winning a record 22nd consecutive league game. Butler shares the record with , which won 21 straight from 1995-97.

is 2-27 all-time against ranked opponents. Its last win over a Top 25 team was a 78-60 victory over No. 22 Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 5, 1998.
