Tennis odds: Wimbledon seeds

Wimbledon is the only grand slam tournament which does not stick strictly to the ATP ranking list in deciding seedings. In allocating the 32 slots, the seeding committee takes into account performances on grass over a two-year period.

Yet despite that, when the All England Club released its seedings on Wednesday, there weren't really any big surprises: The men's first seven seeds were the same as the ATP, and the women's top 20 were the same as the WTA's rankings. (The women's seedings are determined largely by the world rankings, with grass-court credentials taken into account only in exceptional circumstances.)

Five-time champion Roger Federer and top-ranked Ana Ivanovic were seeded No. 1 for Wimbledon, which begins Monday. Federer has a 59-match win streak on grass and is aiming to break Bjorn Borg's record of five consecutive Wimbledon titles and win his 13th Grand Slam championship. Ivanovic just won the French Open.

The biggest jump among the seeded players compared to rankings was Marcos Baghdatis. The Cypriot is seeded No. 10, 15 spots above his world ranking. He reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon last year, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in a five-setter, and reached the semifinals in 2006.

The winners of this year's first two majors are the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds: French Open champ Rafael Nadal takes the second spot; he has lost in the final for the last two years.

Australian Open champion Djokovic is at No. 3.Australia's Lleyton Hewitt, the last man other than Federer to win Wimbledon, in 2002, has been seeded No. 20. Croatia's Mario Ancic, a former semifinalist and the last man to beat Federer at Wimbledon, is
unseeded.

On the women's side, there are no surprises. Defending Wimbledon champion Venus Williams has been seeded No. 7, one behind sister Serena.

The draw for the tournament will be held Friday.
